As Australia's chief of army meets with military heads in Jakarta to smooth over defence ties, Indonesia's security minister says the relationship is not shaken.
While the two countries had their ups and downs, General Wiranto said on Wednesday that the relationship was strong - as evidenced by President Joko Widodo's plan to visit Australia at the end of the month.
"It shows that the Indonesian-Australian relationship is not shaken. It has been maintained well," he told reporters in Jakarta.
Indonesian military chief General Gatot Nurmantyo stirred up diplomatic waters as the new year kicked off, making the shock announcement that all defence ties would be suspended following the discovery of "offensive" material at a Perth Base.
The Indonesian government soon clarified, saying the suspension would only apply to language training courses.
Australia's chief of army Angus Campbell is visiting Jakarta today to meet with Gen Nurmantyo and other defence heads.
He is expected to present findings of an internal investigation into the matter.
In response to a question as to whether Gen Gatot had a negative attitude towards Australia, with the army chief having previously raised suspicions about the circulation of US marines through Darwin.
"There are smaller incidents which is only some individual situations," Mr Wiranto said.
"I appreciate the initiative of the two commanders to solve this problem in a family manner."
He said they will await to see the investigation outcome before making any further decisions.
Gen Gatot is expected to speak to the media later today.
