English second-tier rugby league team Featherstone Rovers have signed former NSW and Australian forward Reni Maitua on a two-year deal.

The 32-year-old former Canterbury, Cronulla and Parramatta player has 174 NRL appearances to his name and his signature is a real statement of intent from Rovers of their intent to win promotion back to the Super League.

"This is a massive signing for Featherstone Rovers," said coach Andy Hay.

"His playing record speaks for itself and he brings a wealth of experience to our dressing room."

Maitua played one Test for Australia in 2006 but also appeared for Samoa in the 2013 World Cup and this year's Four Nations.
