Renshaw blasts stunning Somerset ton

Australian opener Matt Renshaw scored his second century in as many matches for Somerset on an eventful day against Yorkshire in the County Championship.

Matthew Renshaw has raced to a century before lunch as he continues to make the most of his unexpected call up to English county Somerset.

The 22-year-old Australian Test opener was in sparkling form as he scored 112 against Yorkshire on a day when 20 wickets fell in the Division One clash at Taunton.

Having notched an unbeaten 101 in the previous match against Lancashire, Renshaw was in no mood to dally as wickets fell at the other end.

He brought up his 50 off 39 balls, all in boundaries with 10 fours and two sixes.

Renshaw continued to plunder the bowling and went to his century with a hooked six off Jack Brooks, his three figures coming off 86 deliveries, which included 14 fours and four sixes.

He finally fell when caught by wicketkeeper Andy Hodd off Brooks, who finished with 5-57 as Somerset were dismissed for 216.

Yorkshire were then bowled out for just 96 and Renshaw and Marcus Trescothick then reached six without loss second time around to ensure that the hosts led by 126 at the close.

Renshaw, who joined the county as the replacement for suspended fellow Australian Test opener Cameron Bancroft, clearly enjoyed chancing his arm for his century.

"It was a pretty different innings to my normal game but having assessed the wicket this morning, I didn't feel comfortable just fending at it," he said.

"I was better if I was playing full cricket shots.

"They were bowling really well and I felt that if I fended one and nicked off, it would really annoy me.

"I tried to take the game on and put pressure on their bowlers and tried to come out on top.

"I guess it was just my lucky day."
