Repairman focus of William Tyrell search

A man quizzed by police as part of the investigation into missing toddler William Tyrell regularly posted on social media about the search for the toddler.

The man whose home has been swarmed by police probing William Tyrell's disappearance had previously urged people not to give up searching for the toddler.

The semi-rural home of a washing-machine repairman and his family has been at the centre of investigations for the past two days as forensic specialists combed the grounds of the NSW mid-north coast property.

An excavator worked in the yard, a septic tank was drained and sniffer dogs ran over the property.

Police questioned the man and his wife, and they were released.

The man had joined the local community's call not to lose hope in finding William after the toddler disappeared in September.

"Don't give up looking..." he posted on Facebook last month.

Fairfax Media reports the man allegedly gave a quote to fix a washing machine at the Kendall home a few days before William vanished, and had been due to return to the house that day.

The little boy from Sydney was last seen wearing a Spiderman suit on September 12.

He had been playing with his sister in his grandmother's backyard in Kendall, some 20km from Bonny Hills, and had only been in the area for a day.

Detectives also searched a unit and the office of Speddo's pawn brokers, believed to be linked to the man, in nearby Laurieton on Tuesday and seized a mattress and a computer.

But Superintendent Paul Fehon insists it's not a major breakthrough in the search for William.

"We searched a number of premises in the Laurieton and Bonny Hills area yesterday as part of the ongoing investigation and the search for young William," Supt Fehon said.

"I don't describe it as a major breakthrough. This is a line of inquiry we're taking."

A number of people have been spoken to by police, but no-one has been charged, he said.

Late last week police searched The Haven caravan park in Laurieton, following reports residents had heard a child crying in the weeks after William vanished.

Authorities conducted a major search of the area following his disappearance, including 21 houses, surrounding bushland and waterways.

A complicated family history has made his parents hesitant to speak publicly about William's disappearance. Supt Fehon said family members were being kept up to date.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
