The Australian website says that a man from Sydney has reportedly been killed in Syria. He is believed to be Ahmad Moussalli.
The Department of Foreign Affairs last night confirmed it was aware of reports of another Australian death in Syria, but has not confirmed the man's death.
Counter-terrorism sources told the paper they were unaware of Mr Moussalli prior to reports of his death.
It was suggested Australian radicals are becoming more involved in the Syrian conflict, but authorities are using interdiction, rather than seeking to prosecute fighters upon their return.
It comes as the number of Australian passports that have been cancelled due to security concerns has almost trebled since 2011.
The Australian reports figures from ASIO show the number of passports cancelled between 2009-10 to 2011-12 had been steady at about seven per year, and had risien to 18 last year.
