Reports home alight in NSW bushfire

Firefighters are battling a blaze threatening the NSW Southern Highlands village of Balmoral amid one house is in flames.

There are reports a house is on fire from a blaze which has been threatening a village in the NSW Southern Highlands, the Rural Fire Service says.

The RFS has issued an emergency warning for the fire burning around Wilson Drive and Railway Parade at Balmoral village in Wingecarribee.

Spokesman Joel Kursawe says the fire is moving extremely quickly and there are reports one house was on fire.

"They're saying that one house is already alight, that could be because the house was alight and it's spread, or not, we don't know," he told reporters.

"It's all happened very quickly."

The RFS has advised residents to take shelter and protected themselves from the heat.

Firefighters are at the scene.

Meanwhile, an out of control fire west of the Blue Mountains has crossed the Bells Line of Road and is burning near Oaky Park, Morts Estate, Clarence, Dargan and Doctors Gap.

Residents in the Clarence, Dargan and Doctors Gap regions are being urged to take shelter and watch out for spot fires sparking ahead of the main front.

The RFS is leaving emergency telephone messages at homes in the area to warn them of the deteriorating conditions.

Bells Line of Road has been closed between Lithgow and Bell in both directions.

The Darling Causeway is closed northbound at the Great Western Highway in Mount Victoria.
