Resmed posts drop in Sept quarter profit

Medical device maker ResMed's profit was down three per cent from a year ago, hurt by currency fluctuations and declines in average selling prices.

Medical device maker ResMed has recorded a drop in profit after a high US dollar hurt revenue from its European and Asia Pacific operations and weighed on its margins.

The Australian-listed company, which specialises in sleep disorder products, recorded a net profit of $US80.40 million ($A111.51 million) for the three months to September 30, down three per cent from the same period a year ago.

Revenue from the company's US business was up 23 per cent during the first quarter, but revenue from its European and Asia Pacific operations was down 9.0 per cent due to currency fluctuations and declines in average selling prices.
