Respect rule of law: Bar tells Indonesia

The Australian Bar Association says Indonesia must respect the rule of law and stop preparing to execute two Australians while a final appeal is pending.

The Australian Bar Association says Indonesia has failed to respect the rule of law by transferring two condemned Bali Nine drug smugglers before their legal appeals are exhausted.

A vehicle believed to be carrying Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran left Bali's Kerobokan prison early on Wednesday, en route to the island where they are scheduled to be executed by firing squad.

The bar association says it has grave concerns about the lack of respect for due process.

"In this case, court proceedings have not concluded and the appeal concerning the decision to refuse clemency has not been determined," association president Fiona McLeod SC said in a statement on Wednesday.

"In such a case the authorities should await the outcome of judicial processes."

The association has called on Indonesia's attorney general and prison authorities to respect the rule of law.
