A Nationals senator is urging the federal government to beef up competition laws.
Several coalition MPs are annoyed the prime minister opted to defer a decision on the so-called effects test, which would tightened the law to give small businesses greater protections against their much larger counterparts.
The proposal was opposed by big business but MP Matt Canavan told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday the issue needed to be revisited.
