Second-placed David Reynolds is in attack mode mindset as he tries to chase down V8 Supercars leader Mark Winterbottom over the last two rounds.
Bottle-O Racing Team Ford driver Reynolds trails Pepsi Max Crew Ford racer Mark Winterbottom by 239 points, with third-placed Red Bull Racing Australia Holden representative Craig Lowndes one point further back.
There's a maximum of 600 points up for grabs over the remaining races at Phillip Island this weekend and Sydney in the first week of December.
"It is achievable for me to win the championship, but it's going to be real tough," Reynolds told AAP on Tuesday.
"It's going to come down to a lot of car speed and a lot of good strategy down there.
"I'm going in with the mentality of attack mode - I have to win every race."
Reynolds recognises Winterbottom can afford to race conservatively and is unlikely to lose the championship unless he makes mistakes.
"He's built himself enough of a championship lead that he can actually kind of cruise a little bit," Reynolds said.
"As long as he doesn't make stupid decisions out there or people make stupid decisions around him, he can afford to lose a hundred points a round and still win the championship."
While Reynolds and Winterbottom are both Ford drivers, he does not expect any team orders for him to back off if they are in close proximity out on the circuit and in danger of taking each other out.
"There's never been team orders since I've been here," Reynolds said.
"We're on the same team. It is kind of a strange team because everyone gets along really well and everyone shares all the data and set up information as best they can to try and help each other.
"It's kind of weird. Most teams don't do that; they hide secrets and stuff.
"We're free to race as best we can.
"He wouldn't pass me and take me out and I wouldn't pass him and take him out," added Reynolds, who will join the Erebus team for next year.
