In the Tour de France, Christophe Riblon has become the first Frenchman to bag a stage win at this year's race, triumphing on the Alpe d'Huez after a long chase to the top.

Riblon's performance will be warmly welcomed by the hosts who have struggled to make any impact in the 100th edition of the race.

Yellow jersey holder Chris Froome, meanwhile, has extended his lead over Alberto Contador, who failed to spark in a stage which saw the riders climb the mighty Alpe d'Huez twice in one day.

Darren Mara spoke with SBS cycling commentator Mike Tomalaris about Riblon's relentless pursuit of the American BMC rider Teejay van Garderen in the final kilometres of stage 18.
