Overall, new car sales in Australia were down by 2.6% in 2011, but more than 1 million rolled out of showroom floors according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

In a year that was dominated by the global economic slowdown, and numerous natural disasters like that of Japan's tsunami which halted car exports for a while, selling 1 million cars is a great achievement.
