Daniel Ricciardo has managed to post a quick early time to be third-fastest after the first F1 practice session in Monaco.

Ricciardo producing a lap just three-tenths of a second slower than the man who topped the timesheets, championship leader, Lewis Hamilton, with Toro Rosso driver 17-year-old Max Verstappen splitting them.

Hamilton, who has won three out of five races this season and signed a new three-year deal with Mercedes on Wednesday, was .149 seconds faster than the Verstappen.

Daniel Ricciardo was third quickest for Red Bull, ahead of Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.

Nico Rosberg, who is second behind Hamilton in the championship standings, had an early scare when he brushed his Mercedes against the barriers but did no damage.

Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr. and Lotus driver Romain Grosjean also escaped without damage after spinning their cars.

The second practice session will be held later on Thursday.
