2009 - Makes his track debut in a Formula One car, testing for Red Bull as a 20-year-old.
2011 - Announced as Toro Rosso's test and reserve driver for the season, but ends up driving in 11 races for HRT after making his debut at the British Grand Prix.
2012 - Drives alongside Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne for Toro Rosso and is re-signed for 2013.
2014 - Replaces fellow Australia Mark Webber at Red Bull and produces a stunning debut campaign with the team. Wins his maiden Grand Prix in Canada before further victories in Hungary and Belgium to finish third in the championship.
2015 - Can't back up his breakout season as Red Bull struggle to keep up with Mercedes and Ferrari, securing just one podium finish.
2016 - Gets back in the hunt due to his consistency, winning just one race (Malaysia) but finishes the season in third with eight podiums.
2018 - Has a mixed start to the year by winning in China and a famous victory at Monaco but has to retire in four of the 12 races. Speculation abounds all year about his future due to him being out of contract. He makes the shock call on August 3 to switch from Red Bull to Renault.
