When a Motown legend and an Australian singing icon team up, you know you are in for a treat.

Lionel Richie and John Farnham began their co-headlining tour of Australia at a sold out show at Sandalford Winery in Western Australia on Sunday night.

Farnham got the crowd pumped first with his set that ran for a little over an hour, opening with Age Of Reason. He requested the lights stay on so he could see the large crowd.

"I feel like I'm being perved on otherwise," he joked.

Farnham joked about his age throughout the show, including poking fun at his bald spot and telling the crowd to sing along so he could read lips if he forgot any lyrics.

Other hits included Simple Life, Chain Reaction, Hearts On Fire and Man Of The Hour.

He joked Human Nature were unavailable to perform Every Time You Cry with him because they were in "Las bloody Vegas" but Farnham's famed back-up singers were more than adequate replacements.

Farnham admitted he hadn't performed in two years and when Touch of Paradise played, he missed his cue because he was "too busy perving".

The set finished with Playing To Win, Pressure Down and Freedom before You're The Voice wrapped up the set with fans on their feet, screaming along with him.

Farnham's encore song was AC/DC's Long Way To The Top.

Richie performed for a little under two hours, beginning with Just For You.

He sang solo hits and songs from the Commodores including Easy, Truly and Say You Say Me, which he dubbed "karaoke at its finest".

Richie encouraged everyone to sing along and stand up, and they mostly obliged.

He noted some in the crowd had been fans from the beginning while some had mothers who played his music at home.

Settling in comfortably at the winery, Richie took a sip of wine and said "alcohol is not the answer" before adding that it might work for the night.

He later joked that Australians must not have livers because they had been drinking since the afternoon.

The five-time Grammy award winner boasted he had a song for every moment in a person's life including love and loss, and that the music could be found on albums, CDs, cassettes and as downloads.

He then sang hits including Oh No and Stuck On You before upping the tempo with Brick House.

Richie also shared the story of his father making a toast to his mother, which inspired him to write Three Times A Lady, which everyone sang along to.

He also had the crowd singing the Diana Ross parts of Endless Love.

The set ended with Dancing On The Ceiling, Hello and All Night Long, before he returned to the stage to sing We Are The World, which he dedicated to Michael Jackson, who co-wrote the song with him.

The only thing that could have made the night more memorable was if Farnham and Richie had sung together, but everyone was still smiling as they left the winery.
