Rio 2016 hinges on health, family: LeBron

Basketball superstar LeBron James says a decision on whether he tries for a third basketball Olympic gold medal will be governed by his health and family.

LeBron James says his health and family will determine whether he tries for a record third men's basketball Olympic gold medal next summer in Rio.

James took part in USA Basketball's mini-camp on Wednesday, satisfying chairman Jerry Colangelo's mandate that anyone wanting to be considered for the 2016 roster showed up this week in Las Vegas.

James suited up in a No.27 jersey and worked out.

He won't play in the Americans' intrasquad exhibition on Thursday because of a previous commitment back in Ohio.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' All-Star could join Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul as the only three-time gold medallists, and he and Anthony would be the first Americans to appear in four Olympics.

James said he was "not pencilling it in, as of now, for next summer" and all decisions went through his family.
