Cyril Rioli is still setting himself to return from a hamstring injury in AFL finals.

Rioli has been on the sidelines since suffering a hamstring injury in round 15 against Gold Coast.

Hawthorn were initially hopeful the 25-year-old could get a match under his belt before September.

But the Hawks confirmed last week that will not happen.

Rioli told the Seven Network on Monday he'd had "a bit of a setback, but it feels great (now)".

"I'm still set on playing footy this year," Rioli said.

"...The loss (against Fremantle), it definitely hurt me a bit so it's definitely driving me to get back playing this year.

"I'd love to be back, but I'm still trying to get my leg right and that's my priority."

Geelong star Steve Johnson remains in doubt for his side's blockbuster clash with the Hawks due to a foot injury.
