Rising star Green shines in LPGA debut

West Australian golfer Hannah Green has made an outstanding debut on the LPGA Tour by finishing tied for 11th, behind winner Brittany Lincicome.

Rookie Hannah Green looked the part as she finished just outside the top-10 in her first LPGA event as a full tour member.

The 21-year-old West Australian shot a two-under 71 to finish tied for 11th at four-under in the weather-affected season opener in The Bahamas.

Green, the best placed Australian, won her a place on the main tour after finishing second on the 2017 LPGA Futures Tour.

American Brittany Lincicome triumphed at the Ocean Club Golf Course for the second consecutive year after she carded a final-round 66 to finish two clear of Taiwan's Wei-Ling Hsu, who finished 10-under.

In an event already cut to 54 holes after wind wiped out most of Friday's play, the defending champion was among the leading players forced to finish their second round on Sunday.

After completing nine holes in the morning for a second-round 67, the world No.53 raced darkness in her final round as she birdied four of the last five holes - including the flood-lit 18th well after sunset.

A costly bogey on the 17th for Hsu thwarted her hopes of victory but a birdie at the last ensured she stayed clear of world No.1 Shanshan Feng

Feng began the final round in the outright lead but could only close out with a 71 that left her third at nine-under.

Brooke Henderson, the leader on Saturday night when play was suspended because of darkness, shot a 72 to finish ninth at six-under

Queenslander Sarah Jane Smith began the day tied for eighth but a horrible 41 on the front nine scuppered any chance of her pressing for the title.

She finished even-par for the weekend in 31st, ahead of fellow Australians Su Oh (+3) and Katherine Kirk (+4).
