Rob Scott to take Wesfarmers' helm

Rob Scott, Wesfarmers' industrial division head who will take the company's helm when CEO Richard Goyder retires, knows the company well.

Wesfarmers longtime chief executive Richard Goyder will step down in November and filling his shoes will be the group's industrials division's managing director Rob Scott.

* Rob Scott, 47, is an Olympian who won a silver medal with rowing partner David Weightman in the men's coxless pairs at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

* He is currently the managing director of Wesfarmers' industrials division that operates chemical, energy and fertislier businesses and the group's coal mines.

* He has been promoted with immediate effect to the company's new deputy chief executive position and will continue as the industrials division's chief until July 1.

* He first joined Wesfarmers in 1993 before leaving the company to move into investment banking.

* He returned to the group in 2004, becoming managing director of its insurance division in 2007.

* In 2013, he became the finance director of Wesfarmers' core business Coles supermarkets.

* In October 2014 he was appointed managing director of Wesfarmers' financial services.

* In August 2015, Mr Scott became the group's industrials division MD.

* On February 14, 2017, he is appointed as chief executive Richard Goyder's successor and will immediately shadow him as deputy CEO until Mr Goyder steps down at the AGM in November.
