Roberts opens up about sister's death

Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts has opened up for the first time about her half-sister's death earlier this year.

US actress Julia Roberts has spoken about her half sister' death for the first time, saying she's heartbroken.

Nancy Motes died from a suspected drug overdose in February at the age of 37.

The siblings had a difficult relationship according to reports, with Motes lashing out at Roberts on Twitter in the past, calling her a "bitch" and "cruel".

But despite any issues there may have been, it didn't make her death any less devastating for the Oscar winner.

"It's just heartbreak," Roberts told WSJ Magazine.

"It's only been 20 days. There aren't words to explain what any of us have been through in these last 20 days. It's hour by hour some days, but you just keep looking ahead."

At the time of Mote's sudden death, Roberts and her family remained relatively quiet. But with the release of the WSJ interview, the Pretty Woman actress has finally had the chance to share her feelings for her sister.

"You don't want anything bad to happen to anyone, but there are so many tragic, painful, inexplicable things in the world. But (as with) any situation of challenge and despair, we must find a way, as a family," she said.

"It's so hard to formulate a sentence about it outside the weepy huddle of my family."

The Oscar winner also revealed taking time to reflect is something both she and her children have benefited from during the grieving process.

"Meditation or chanting or any of those things can be so joyous and also very quieting," she added.

"We share and just say, 'This is a way I comfort myself.'"
