Roberts pledges future to Titans

Gold Coast speedster James Roberts has signed a two-year contract extension with the NRL club.

Boom Gold Coast youngster James Roberts has pledged his future to the battling NRL club, signing a two-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old is in the midst of a breakout season for the Titans, sitting equal-second on the competition's try-scoring charts after crossing 11 times in 12 games.

Roberts has turned his career around since arriving on the tourist strip last year, after he was sacked by Penrith and South Sydney for off-field issues.

He now stands as Gold Coast's most lethal attacking outlet.

Roberts' deal is reportedly worth $1 million and his retention comes as a huge boost for Gold Coast following the Daly Cherry-Evans backflip saga.

Roberts said his decision was partly motivated by his desire to help drag the Titans out of the rugby league doldrums.

"I've matured as a person and a player in my time here but I know I can keep improving and I want to play a big part for the Titans moving forward as a club," he said.

"It's good to have my future settled, I've really enjoyed it on the Gold Coast, the relaxed lifestyle outside of footy as well as at the Titans.

"It's been a fresh start for me and I appreciate the faith the club has shown and I want to really prove myself as an NRL player in the next couple of seasons.

"I have learned a lot from Neil Henry and his coaching staff and have a really good bunch of teammates around me.

"I feel settled here which has helped my footy."

Henry said he was delighted to have held onto Roberts, a player who he believes is yet to reach his ceiling.

"We all know how dynamic James can be with the ball but he is also developing other aspects of his game and will continue to improve as he gains experience at the elite level," Henry said.

"He has shown this season what he is capable of and it is great news for the club that he'll be with us for another two seasons.

"We hope to see him in Titans colours for many years to come."
