Dwight Howard, a key reason why the Houston Rockets own the fourth-best record in the NBA, will be sidelined for at least the next month.
The 29-year-old centre has received a bone marrow aspirate injection in his right knee and will be re-evaluated in four weeks, although an exact timetable for his return was not given by the club.
Howard is averaging 16.3 points, a team high 11.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots a game for the Rockets, who are 33-15 and three games behind Memphis in the Southwest division.
Atlanta and Golden State are the only other NBA teams with better records than the Rockets so far this season.
Howard, who has already started rehabilitation on the knee, has already missed 16 games this season for Houston, which has gone 11-5 in his absence.
He has not played since January 23, when he suffered a right ankle sprain against Phoenix.
