Rolf Harris plaque to remain on Perth path

There are no plans to remove a Rolf Harris footpath plaque on the main street of his home city, Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi says.

Rolf Harris's home city has no plans to tear up a footpath plaque commemorating the artist and musician in light of his criminal charges in the UK.

"The Boy from Bassendean" was among 150 notable West Australians celebrated with a plaque inlaid in the footpath of Perth's St Georges Tce in 1979, marking 150 years since the foundation of the Swan River Colony.

But his plaque will remain there - for now at least - alongside the likes of Aboriginal leader Yagan, artist Robert Juniper and author Tim Winton.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said on Thursday there were no plans to remove Harris's plaque.

"Rolf Harris has not been convicted of an offence and the reasons for him being honoured with a plaque, in recognition of his entertainment achievements, have not changed," she told AAP.

On Wednesday, it emerged the Town of Bassendean had removed a portrait of Harris from its council chambers.

The Rolf Harris Water Playground was opened in Bassendean in 1979 but closed in 2006 as it had fallen into disrepair.

He was also that year created a freeman of the Bassendean, where he was born in 1930.
