North Melbourne coach Brad Scott returned to work on Monday after spending a month away from the club as he recovered from back surgery.

Scott had been managing a back injury for some time before the pain became too great and he was advised to undergo an operation after the Roos' round nine loss to Collingwood.

Assistant coach Darren Crocker has guided the side to two wins and a loss in Scott's absence and he will sit in the hot seat for one more week.

Coming off their bye, North take on Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday but Scott has not yet been cleared to fly.

The coach will take training as usual at Arden Street this week and will have input via text message against the Suns, as he has done for all games during his absence.
