Melbourne coach Paul Roos has agreed to coach the Demons for a third AFL season in 2016.

Sydney's 2005 premiership mentor joined the Demons in September 2013 on a two-year deal for the 2014 and 2015 seasons, with an option for 2016.

Melbourne have won four of their 17 games in 2014, after finishing 17th with a 2-20 record in 2013.

"Roos told the club he would take up his third year," a report on Melbourne's club website said on Monday.
