Chairman Nick Politis says he'd like to see Jarryd Hayne play for the Roosters but concedes there's not much point in chasing the new NFL star.

Sydney Roosters chairman Nick Politis has admitted he'll probably never see Jarryd Hayne playing NRL in red, white and blue.

Politis confirmed reports the Roosters have been keeping an eye on Hayne as he follows his American dream of playing NFL, with the hope of snapping up the former Dally M Player of the Year if he fails.

But with the rookie revelation having survived the first round of roster cuts at the San Francisco 49ers and edging ever closer to cracking the final 53-man squad, a return to the NRL is looking extremely slim.

"It would be a good one to make a reality," Politis told Roosters Radio of his desire to see Hayne play at the Tricolours.

"I think he's going so well that he'll stay there for sure."

Politis said he was happy for Hayne but was also concerned the 27-year-old's remarkable early success may not be so positive for the NRL if talent scouts attempt to poach the code's best players.

"It's fantastic ... if it works out all right for Jarryd," he said.

"(If) Hayne stays there I'm sure they're going to send out scouts to look at some of our younger players coming through with that sort of build and speed."

"It might be a bit of an opportunity for some of our players which really is a negative from our point of view because we don't want to lose some of our good players over there.

"But it's good for the individuals because it's a great achievement to be able to do that."
