The Sydney Roosters are spending $20,000 to send injured centre Blake Ferguson to the United States in the hope of fast-tracking his recovery.

News Corp reported on Sunday that Ferguson, who hurt his ankle playing against his former NRL club Canberra at the end of March, would spend two weeks with a sports reconditioning specialist based just outside Philadelphia.

Just four games into his NRL return from a 22-month exile after being sacked by the Raiders for off-field issues, Ferguson injured his ankle that included a fracture of the bone in the Lisfranc joint of his foot.

The initial injury prognosis was that he'd be sidelined for four months.

Following the stint in the US, Ferguson is hoping to be fit for round 15 against St George-Illawarra, which would mean he'd be back over a month ahead of schedule.
