Hooker Jake Friend insists the Sydney Roosters have put their premiership celebrations to bed after their emphatic World Club Challenge win and are ready to get down to business in 2014.
The Roosters began their new season in fine style with a 36-14 win over Super League champions Wigan last weekend to take out the world club showpiece at Allianz Stadium.
The trophy added to an outstanding season for the Roosters which also included the NRL minor premiership and the Provan-Summons trophy.
But Friend says that is now all forgotten as the tricolours seek to win back-to-back premierships for the first since a rampant Brisbane claimed the double way back in 1992-93.
"We were definitely not taking Wigan lightly, we definitely wanted to win and put a stamp on last year's season, we did that and now we are all about 2014," Friend told AAP.
"That was our last bit of last year. We wanted to finish off last year with a win in the World Club Challenge and now all our focus is on 2014.
"We have to try and forget last year I suppose.
"But there is not a whole heap different this year and that is what we are trying to build here.
"We are trying to build a culture and a direction that we want to go in.
"We have some good new signings and some young blokes like Dylan Napa and Kane (Evans) who will hopefully get a few goes during the year.
"We have a few different variations we have been working on from last year but predominantly we are just trying to get better than we were."
Man of the match in the win over Wigan, Friend said the big pre-season fixture will put the Roosters in good stead for their NRL season opener against bitter rivals South Sydney on Thursday.
"The start of the game we fell back into it (our structures) and then went a away from it a bit but we have that base now," Friend said.
"Hopefully during the year we can just keep building our combinations.
"We will be so much better for the hitout. Come round one we will be ready to go.
"It is definitely a bonus playing a big game like that with a big crowd.
"It gives you that buzz and gets you into the groove straight away.
"We will be a lot better for round one than we were last year.
"We have a week off and then we get into Souths, another big game and another big crowd, I'm definitely looking forward to that."
