Erika Ropati Frost has become the first female Australian weightlifter to lift double her body weight in competition.
The three-time Commonwealth Games athlete, competing in the 53kg division, successfully lifted 106kg in the clean and jerk at the national championships in Melbourne on Friday.
"I'm so proud of this moment," said Ropati Frost.
"This is really going to put me in a good spot for the Rio Olympic trials."
The 27-year-old Queenslander is the country's No.1 female lifter and a strong contender to qualify for the Rio Olympics next year.
Ropati Frost said she'd thought a lot about what it would mean to complete the history-making lift.
"Footprints in unwalked sand, that's the image I had," she said.
"I did feel a bit of pressure with getting this... I felt I'd (fallen) behind in my past couple of competitions.
"I want to be able to keep pushing forward. To be able to be the first woman in Australia (to do it), that's something I'll have forever."
Ropati Frost won the 53kg gold with a 188kg total, while Queensland policewoman Mary Barter won gold in the 48kg division.
The Australian championships double as selection trials for the world and Commonwealth weightlifting championships later this year.
