Liberal MP Ross Vasta has publicly thrown his hat in the ring to become Speaker, even providing handy pictures of him in the chair.

The member of the Speaker's panel - a group of deputies who fill in - said he had presided over important decisions and divisions over the past 18 months.

"The knowledge and experience I gained during this time and over a long parliamentary career would serve me well in the role of Speaker," Mr Vasta said in a statement on Thursday, ahead of a partyroom meeting on Monday.
