Rove McManus's new TV game show in the US has been axed.

The Australian funny man's comedy-improv series Riot debuted on Rupert Murdoch's FOX TV network last month to dismal ratings, despite largely positive reviews.

Variety described the opening numbers as "anaemic" and "dismal" and the poor ratings continued.

McManus hosted Riot and Hollywood comedian Steve Carrell produced it.

They were not the only ones to feel the guillotine on Thursday, with FOX giving the panned reality dating show I Wanna Marry Harry the boot.

I Wanna Marry Harry featured a dozen American women competing for the affections of a Prince Harry lookalike.

The clueless ladies were not aware the redhead was not British royalty.

Riot was based on the Australian series Slide Show, which was inspired by a French program.
