Rudd’s foundation will uphold the principles of his apology speech made in the Australian Parliament during 2008.
The deputy chair of the National Apology Foundation will be former Liberal Minister Bruce Baird.
The foundation will be formally launched at a fundraiser at the end of this year, where Rudd wants to encourage more politicians and the business sector to get involved.
This weekend, residents in the South Brisbane seat of Griffith will vote in a bi-election, after Mr Rudd stood down not long after the Coalition took power.
The results this weekend could be an indication of how the electorate sees the performance of Australia’s new government.
