Rudd, Gillard should remain history: MP

Labor MP Ed Husic says the Rudd-Gillard years should remain history rather than be dredged up in a television documentary.

It would be nice if Kylie Minogue's rendition of Locomotion and Jason Donovan's Neighbours mullet had remained consigned to history, according to federal Labor MP Ed Husic.

"But I can't do anything about it, can I?" he told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.

Similarly, Labor history should remain just that, Mr Husic says.

His comments come ahead of the airing of a new ABC three-part series, The Killing Season, about the Rudd-Gillard years.

In it, Julia Gillard accuses Kevin Rudd of bullying and intimidating her.

Labor frontbenchers including Jenny Macklin and Chris Bowen feature in the series, which will begin airing on the fifth anniversary of Mr Rudd's removal as Labor leader and the second anniversary of his reinstatement.

Mr Husic says all Labor members are entitled to make their own decisions on participating in the series but the focus should be on how the team had united since those days.

"There's nothing you can do about the history. What's done is done," he said.

A "big reason" Labor was voted out at the 2013 election was division, he believes.

"That lesson has been well and truly learned by our side of politics."
