Russia have won the European team athletics championships on home soil, taking the title for the fourth time in the past six years.

Russia won 10 of the 40 events on the program, securing the title with one event remaining after Maria Kuchina took out the high jump.

The winning total for Russia was 368.5 points, 22 ahead of second-placed Germany, last year's champions.

France had their best finish at the championships, coming third on 319.5 points.

After finishing at the bottom of the table, Sweden, Finland and Norway will drop to the second tier of the championships for next year.
