Two Russian five-year-olds have managed to dig their way out of their kindergarten using spades from a sandpit, before heading to a nearby luxury car dealership in the hope of buying a Jaguar.

Russia's Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reports the two boys had disappeared as their group was taking a supervised walk in the kindergarten grounds. Staff had realised the boys were absent after about half an hour.

The duo had reportedly started digging a hole under a property fence several days before reaching the other side.

A spokesman for the Chelyabinsk regional interior ministry had confirmed the boys' escape.

"We don't have any details yet, we can only confirm the fact itself," the spokesman said, adding the incident had taken place several days ago.

The boys then walked two kilometres to a showroom selling luxury cars.

When asked what they were doing there by a female driver, the boys told her they had come from their kindergarten to buy a Jaguar. But they didn't have any money.

The woman then drove them to a nearby police station.

The head of Magnitogorsk's pre-school department called the incident "a very serious violation".

The boys' parents have not submitted any complaints against the kindergarten, but the supervisor in charge at the time has been sacked.
