Doubles maestro John Peers says he and Jordan Thompson executed their gameplan to perfection in Saturday's comprehensive Davis Cup semi-final rubber.

Peers, the world's No,2-ranked player and Thompson, who is now unbeaten in four Davis Cup appearances, brushed aside Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans and Arthur De Greef 6-3 6-4 6-0 in just 90 minutes.

Their victory puts Australia on the brink of a first Davis Cup final appearance since 2003.

Victory for Nick Kyrgios or John Millman in either Sunday's singles rubber will be enough to secure a decider on home soil against Serbia or France in November.

"We had a gameplan and we executed it perfectly," Peers said.

"We came out really strong and sustained it from the start and was able to stay on top of it.

"We had two tight service games of our own but were able to keep rolling.

"We got an break early in each set and that kept the crowd out of it. They were never really able to get vocal. It allowed us to set the tone."

Thompson, who has enjoyed victories over former world No.1 Andy Murray and America's Jack Sock in the US Open in the last three months, said playing for his country brings out the best in him.

"Playing for the green and gold you just leave everything out there and there is no place I would rather be," Thompson said.
