Gold Coast captain Ryan James will avoid a suspension for a trip on St George Illawarra's Joel Thompson in Friday night's NRL win.

James has been hit with a grade-one charge over the second-half offence, for which he was not penalised in the 20-10 victory.

The Titans prop fell to the ground as he attempted to bring down the Dragons' second-rower, and appeared to lift his right leg as Thompson passed.

James faces a fine of $1800 over the incident due to prior offences, however that can be reduced to $1350 if he enters an early guilty plea.

He was the only player charged from Friday night's matches.
