Neither Jesse Ryder nor Doug Bracewell, under investigation for a late night out, will be selected for New Zealand for the second cricket Test against India.
Coach Mike Hesson says there's "extreme disappointment" within the Black Caps camp over the actions of the pair in the early hours of last Thursday before the start of the first Test in Auckland.
Ryder and Bracewell, who came away from the night with a broken bone in a foot, were in the squad of 13 as back-up.
"Doug is injured, but the situation is we need to make sure all our players prepare themselves accordingly for Test cricket," Hesson told journalists on Monday.
"At the moment, we don't have confidence that's the case."
Hesson said the episode had taken some of the attention away from New Zealand's effort in their 40-run win over India.
"The fact that we won a test match yesterday and the fact that first few questions are based around off-field incidents is clearly an extreme disappointment for the team," he said.
"It takes away from a superb effort over the last four days."
Both Ryder, who hit a century for Otago in a Plunket Shield match at the weekend, and seamer Bracewell have been in involved in off-field controversy before.
Hesson said he could not make further comment while New Zealand Cricket was investigating the latest incident.
He expected the team for the second Test, which starts in Wellington on Friday, to be named on Tuesday.
Also out of reckoning for that match is Canterbury seamer Matt Henry, who impressed in his one-day international debut in Wellington last month but has a groin injury.
