South Africa beat Pakistan by an innings and 92 runs in the second and final cricket Test in Dubai on Saturday, levelling the series at 1-1.

Pakistan were bowled out for 326 in their second innings with Asad Shafiq top-scoring with 130 while skipper Misbah-ul-Haq made 88.

The win also maintained South Africa's seven-year unbeaten run in series away from home since losing in Sri Lanka in 2006.

Part-time right-arm offbreak bowler Jean-Paul Duminy finished with 3-67 while Imran Tahir took 3-98 and took a total of eight wickets in the match.

Pakistan won the first Test by seven wickets in Abu Dhabi.

Pakistan, who resumed the fourth day at 4-132, owed their fight to a 197-run fifth-wicket stand between Shafiq and Misbah as they came through the first session without losing a wicket.

But then Misbah fell before tea, caught off part-time spinner Dean Elgar.

Pakistan were shot out for a paltry 99 in their first innings before South Africa took control of the match with a mammoth score of 517, taking a 418-run lead.

Graeme Smith hit an epic 234 and AB de Villiers scored 164 during their all-time South African Test record stand for the fifth wicket of 338.

Brief scores: Pakistan 99 (Imran Tahir 5-32) and 326 (Asad Shafiq 130, Misbah-ul Haq 88; JP Duminy 3-67; Imran Tahir 3-98) South Africa 517 (G. Smith 234, AB de Villiers 164; Saeed Ajmal 6-151)
