SA child abuser appeals 35-year sentence

Former Families SA childcare worker Shannon McCoole is appealing his 35-year jail sentence over child sex offences on the grounds it is excessive.

A former childcare worker convicted of multiple child sex and child pornography offences is seeking to appeal his 35-year jail sentence.

Shannon McCoole was a Families SA childcare worker as well as an administrator of a global child pornography website before he was caught and charged for his horrific crimes against children under his care.

The 33-year-old was this month jailed for 35 years for 18 state and two federal offences including persistent sexual exploitation of children and production and dissemination of child pornography.

McCoole is seeking to appeal the sentence on the grounds it is manifestly excessive, South Australian Supreme Court documents show.
