South Australia's employee ombudsman Stephen Brennan has appeared in court accused of a string of dishonesty offences, allegedly committed when he was a union boss.

Stephen Brennan, 48, of Lockleys in Adelaide, is charged with 35 counts of falsifying accounts and 29 counts of dishonestly dealing with documents.

The charges related to his previous employment as a branch secretary of the Textile, Clothing and Footwear Union, which he left in 2006.

A police prosecutor told Adelaide magistrates court on Wednesday that the investigation was continuing and the defence would be provided with a lot more material.

The case was adjourned to July 8.

When Brennan was arrested last month, Premier Jay Weatherill called for him to resign but he continues to be on paid leave.
