Temperatures are soaring across South Australia but firefighters have been able to deal with a number of blazes so far.

South Australian firefighters remain on high alert with temperatures soaring across the state.

Total fire bans have been declared for 11 districts on Sunday, most notably Northwest Pastoral and West Coast where conditions are expected to be extreme.

Severe conditions are forecast for the Eastern Eyre Peninsula, Lower Eyre Peninsula, Mid North, Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, Riverland, Murraylands, Upper South East and Lower South East.

The Country Fire Service's Phil McDonough said crews would keep a close watch on the fire burning at Pinery, northeast of Adelaide, over the coming days to guard against flare-ups.

Earlier on Saturday the CFS focused efforts on grassfires at Hackham in Adelaide and another in the remote Gammon Ranges, in the state's northwest.

Firefighters also managed to contain another five fires which all broke out on Saturday.

SA's hottest place at 1.30pm (CDT) was Tarcoola in the northwest, which recorded a temperature of 41.1C, according to the BOM.

Temperatures hit 39.5C in Adelaide, 39.3C in Port Augusta and 35.6C in Mount Gambier.
