SA Libs accused of political plagiarism

The SA opposition's announcement to double victims of crime compensation is political plagiarism, according to the government.

The South Australian opposition has matched the government's plan to double the maximum payment to victims of crime to $100,000 if it wins the March election.

Opposition Leader Steven Marshall on Monday said a Liberal government would provide more than $12 million towards the expansion of victims' compensation and support.

It would include $600,000 a year towards the expansion of victims' support services to children, which he said Labor had failed to provide.

On February 7, Attorney-General John Rau said a re-elected Labor government would double the maximum compensation to $100,000, payments would be indexed annually and for the first time grief payments would be available for those under 18.

Mr Rau on Monday said the Liberals' announcement was "a great moment of political plagiarism".

"The Liberals have had 12 years to develop a policy, and when they finally release one, they have just cut and pasted Labor's," he said.

"Once again, the Liberals' lack of vision has demonstrated that they are not ready to govern."
