SA man jailed for raping young mother

A SA man who threatened to slit an infant's throat has been jailed for at least seven years for raping the girl's mother.

A man who threatened to slit a woman's throat with a large hunting knife before raping her and then threatened to do the same to her infant daughter has been jailed for 11 years.

The woman was attacked by David John Frost when she was sitting on the back verandah of her Adelaide home after feeding her daughter in the early hours and putting her back to sleep in March last year.

Setting a non-parole period of seven years in the South Australian District Court, Judge Rauf Soulio said the 29-year-old's offending had been terrifying for the woman.

"Your offending was aggravated by the fact that you used a knife and made threats, not only against her but against her infant child," he said.

A psychologist concluded that Frost, who admitted two counts of rape and one of attempted rape, had a history of sexual deviancy.

When Frost appeared in her backyard and produced the knife, the woman had called out to her sleeping partner but he did not hear her.

"You said to her `If you scream I'll slit your throat'," the judge said.

After repeatedly attacking her, Frost demanded she come to his house and when she mentioned her daughter was inside he said "we can bring her too".

He made her walk through the house, pulled the knife out of the sheath and said he was going to get her daughter.

Frost told her not to make a noise or he would rape the infant and slit her throat.

The woman then ran down the hall and woke her partner, before Frost fled.

The judge said the woman was now scared of everything and everyone around her and had difficulty coping with daily activities.

She is terrified of noises in the night, has nightmares and has had to move from the house.

"Her partner lost his employment because of the need to be with her constantly," the judge said.
