A South Australian man has been jailed for at least 12 years for killing his lover during a night of alcohol-fuelled sex.
Bevan John Brougham, 54, was tried for the murder of Rebecca Rogan but was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Ms Rogan was found dead in the backyard of her Whyalla home in July, 2013.
Her death followed her having sex with Brougham in a spa the previous night which led to an altercation after the woman had bitten her killer on the foot.
Passing sentence in the Supreme Court on Friday, Justice John Sulan said he rejected Brougham's evidence that Ms Rogan's death was the result of him dropping her as he attempted to remove her from the spa.
He said her injuries included blows to the head, neck, face and chest and several broken ribs which were caused by Brougham kicking or stomping on her.
Justice Sulan said he accepted that both the victim and Brougham were severely drunk at the time and that they had been involved in a sexual relationship for some years.
However, he said the offending was extremely serious with Brougham leaving the scene of the crime and making no attempt to get help.
"I regard your offending as a very serious case of manslaughter," the judge said.
Brougham was jailed for 15 years with a 12-year non-parole period.
