A man has been robbed after he responded to a car sales ad for a Nissan Navara in South Australia.

A man has been robbed at gunpoint after responding to an online advertisement to buy a car north of Adelaide.

Police say the victim went to Gawler River Road in Lewiston about 7.15pm on Thursday to meet with the seller of a Nissan Navara on an online sales website.

He was threatened with a firearm and handed cash over to a man, described as a Caucasian with a stocky build, who fled in a dark-coloured late model Nissan Navara 4WD.
