SA man to face child sex charges

A South Australian man has been charged with child sex offences following evidence to the royal commission into institutional abuse.

A South Australian man has been charged with 20 child sex offences following the first arrest in SA linked to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

The Peterborough man, in his 50s, has been charged with 18 counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, two counts of indecent assault and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charges were laid after a woman gave evidence to the commission related to her experiences while in state care in the early 1980s, police said on Wednesday.

They said several other unrelated investigations stemming from the royal commission were also ongoing.

The Peterborough man has been granted police bail to appear in the Peterborough Magistrates Court on September 23.
