SA says it is now better placed for subs

South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill says a move to build the future frigates in Adelaide has the state better placed to win the submarines deal.

South Australia is now better placed to build Australia's next generation of submarines after a move to build the Navy's future frigates largely in Adelaide, Premier Jay Weatherill says.

The move to a continuous build process to cover the Navy's future needs strengthens Adelaide's case to be the home of submarine construction, Mr Weatherill says.

"We've always said that it's necessary to have both surface ships and submarines as part of naval shipbuilding program which creates the continuity and jobs that workers here in this state and around the nation want," he said.
