SA teenager charged over assault on baby

A teenager has been charged over serious head and rib injuries caused to a three-month-old baby east of Adelaide.

A teenager has been charged with causing serious head and rib injuries to a three-month-old baby.

The 17-year-old has been charged with causing serious harm and criminal neglect over the incident on Friday.

He appeared in the Murray Bridge Youth Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear in the Adelaide Children's Court on August 17.

The baby girl was treated at a Murray Bridge medical centre, east of Adelaide, before being transferred to the Women's and Children's Hospital.

She remains in a stable condition and is undergoing further medical assessment.

The teenager is known to the girl's mother, police say.
