South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has announced his government will conduct a Royal Commission into establishing a nuclear industry in the state.
The state is home to one of the largest uranium deposits in the world, accounting for almost a third of known global deposits.
But it has no nuclear power plants of its own.
A national environmental group says there's little prospect for South Australia to expand its involvement in the nuclear fuel cycle.
